Friday marked the 21st death anniversary of Begum Sufia Kamal, country's trailblazing woman activist, poet and educationist. The day has been observed in befitting manners by different socio-cultural organisations throughout the years, however, this year the day was observed with limited arrangements due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19.

For me, Begum Sufia Kamal was one such moral hero. Being a close friend of the family, I spent many evenings on her front porch with her daughters, consuming numerous cups of tea and snacking on Sufia Kamal was born on June 20, 1911, in Barisal, Bangladesh. She was a daughter of Sabera Banu and Syed Abdul Bari. Education During Sufia Kamal's childhood, women's education was prohibited and she could not afford to get academic education. However, she had house tutors who taught her Bengali, Hindi, English, Urdu, Arabic, Kurdish and Persian. Sufia Kamal (?· pàg.) (en bengalí: সুফিয়া কামাল) (Barisal, 20 de juny de 1911 – Dacca, 20 de novembre de 1999) fou una poeta i feminista bengalina.
